Intermediate Shaft Bearing Replacement

Model: Porsche 911 996 - Years 1997-2005

It is recommended to perform this repair only if you have good mechanical knowledge and the proper tools!
The first step is to remove the transmission from the vehicle to place it on a workbench where you can replace the intermediate shaft bearing, but first, phase the engine by rotating the crankshaft pulley until you insert the pin into the designated hole and apply the appropriate template on the camshaft.
Then, unscrew the transmission oil drain plug, the nut at the center of the intermediate shaft bearing, and the three fastening pins of the flange, and remove the flange using the appropriate puller.
Using pliers, detach the retaining ring of the bearing and apply the specific puller to remove the bearing from its seat.
Then, clean the bearing seat thoroughly and install the new one, centering it with the appropriate tool; reinsert the retaining ring ensuring it fits perfectly into the groove, and finally reapply the flange (tightening the fastening pins with a torque wrench to 7 lb-ft) and the center nut (to 9 lb-ft).
At this point, you can reassemble the transmission, tightening the fastening pins to 59 lb-ft.
