Position of the sensors on the 2008 Seat Altea 1.4 TSI

On the Seat Altea with a 1.4 TSI engine (code BMY or CAXC), the most important control units are located in two areas, one of which is not very accessible. The engine control unit (ECU) is the most important and easily identifiable. It is located on the right side of the engine (when looking at the vehicle from the front) and is mounted directly on the air filter. It is a black rectangular aluminum box with many electrical connectors. To access it, simply unscrew the nuts that secure the air filter cover. The ABS/ESP control unit is located in the engine compartment, near the battery, mounted on the same bracket as the brake booster. It is a rectangular metal box with hydraulic lines from the braking system. The airbag control unit, for safety and wiring reasons, is located under the center tunnel, in the floor of the cabin, approximately under the handbrake. To access it, it is necessary to dismantle the entire center console; tampering with this control unit can be very dangerous. The driver's door control unit is integrated within the door itself: it manages the electrical commands and to access it, the door panel must be removed. It is important to note that the control units (like many others present on the vehicle) are factory-coded for that specific VIN, so a new control unit will not work plug & play but will require coding with professional tools.
