How to Replace the Engine Oil and Filter of the Subaru Forester Mk4

This guide shows how to change the engine oil and filter of the Subaru Forester Mk4. After opening the engine bay and raising the vehicle, locate the 14 mm bolt that allows for the draining of the engine oil. Wait for all the fluid to drain and then close the plug; clean any oil residue. Lower the vehicle and locate the engine oil filter; this is situated on the top of the engine, near the oil filler cap. Clean the metal plate at the base and unscrew the part. Clean any residue from the filter fitting and lubricate the seal of the new filter with oil before installing it in position. Fill the oil reservoir with the correct quantity and type of fluid; the specifications are defined in the user manual. Start the engine for a few seconds and check the oil level; top up if necessary.
