How to Perform a Hard Reset on Your Tesla

Model: Tesla Model 3 MK 1 - Years 2017-2024

When you experience issues with your vehicle, sometimes the solution is to perform a hard reset. This is not the same as pressing the two buttons on the steering wheel, as some systems like BMS and MCU never fully shut down. So, open the hood and remove the cover, then unscrew and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. From the passenger side, slightly lift the seat to access the low voltage battery connector, and disconnect it. You will hear a "clunk"; this means the battery relays have opened and all systems are no longer powered. When you hear the "clunk," you can reconnect the connector, but leave the negative terminal disconnected for another 2 minutes. Now you can reconnect and screw the negative terminal back onto the 12-volt battery. It may take up to 1 minute for the central screen to turn back on.
