The way Toyota has improved the CVT transmission

In this video, we see how Toyota has found a way to improve the CVT transmission through the "physical first gear". Continuously Variable Transmissions are excellent for driving smoothness, but have their weakness when accelerating from a standstill and at low speeds. Toyota has brilliantly solved this problem by introducing a fixed gear (a traditional mechanical gear) in parallel to the variable pulley system of the CVT. When we are stopped and press the accelerator, the car does not use the CVT system, but engages a real first mechanical gear, like a traditional automatic transmission; when it reaches speed, it switches imperceptibly to the CVT system.
