How to Route Wires from the Engine Compartment through the Firewall

In this video, you can see how to route wires from the engine compartment to the cabin through the firewall. First, disconnect the battery. Locate the existing grommet in the firewall, looking for a pre-existing rubber conduit (often near the pedal assembly or engine compartment, driver’s side) that is usually black, dome-shaped or cylindrical, and already passed through by other wires. If, as in the video, the conduit is sealed, use a cutter to cut only the sealed tip: you need to maintain the seal against water and dust. If the conduit is tight, insert a stiff wire from the cabin to the engine compartment and secure the wires with electrical tape, creating a narrow and smooth tip to avoid obstacles. Lightly lubricate with dielectric grease, which helps with sliding, without damaging the sheath, gently pull the wire from the other side until the wires emerge, then apply silicone sealant around the hole to maintain a watertight seal. Reconnect everything and secure the wires with zip ties.
