Model: Toyota Rav 4 Xa30, MK 3 - Years 2006-2013
Part: Brake pads
Operation: How to replace rear brake pads on Toyota Rav 4

Replacing the rear brake pads on Toyota RAV 4 is an operation that may require the use of specific tools and mechanical knowledge so it is advisable to read the description and consult the video before proceeding with the disassembly. First of all you will have to unscrew the cap of the brake fluid reservoir inside the engine compartment and only then can you proceed with the disassembly of the first wheel, obviously this operation will have to be carried out after having lifted the car on a bridge or with a jack. Once the first wheel has been removed, you will have access to the brake caliper, in the outermost part of the same there will be a hole where the upper part of the pads will be visible, this will serve as access to insert a lever and detach the pads from the disc. Once there is sufficient space between the disc and the pads, you can proceed by unscrewing the two pins located behind the caliper, this operation will allow you to detach the upper part of the caliper, allowing access to the old pads which can then be removed. In the disassembled part, the piston inside the caliper will be visible, this will have to be returned to its seat using a piston retractor designed specifically for this purpose, in the event that this tool is not available you can use makeshift levers paying attention to do not damage the parts in contact. It is also advisable to lubricate the piston with spray before proceeding and take the opportunity to thoroughly clean all the affected parts before reassembling. Once the piston is in place inside the caliper, the new pads can be installed, before inserting them it is advisable to treat the parts in contact with the caliper with copper paste or with specific products, taking care not to soil the brake lining. . Once the new pads are positioned in the fixed part of the caliper, you can proceed by reassembling everything in the reverse order to that of disassembly and you can start over by carrying out the same operation on the opposite side of the car. It is also recommended to close the brake reservoir cap after finishing the job and to test the brakes safely before heading out onto the road.
