Instructions for Replacing the Alternator

Model: Toyota Avensis T250, MK 2 - Years 2003-2008

If the battery warning light remains on the instrument cluster display, it is very likely that the alternator has stopped working. You can immediately check this by connecting a multimeter to the battery terminals and measuring the voltage with the engine running; if the voltage is 12 Volts, then the alternator is not charging. Disconnect the battery terminals and remove the alternator: you can install a refurbished one or carry out a DIY regeneration by obtaining the so-called plate (which includes the regulator, diodes, and brushes). Once the alternator has been refurbished, install it and repeat the voltage measurement at the battery terminals: you should measure a value between 13.8 and 14.2 Volts.
