The steps in this guide will show you how to open the key fob of the Toyota Highlander. First, take your key fob and use a thin, pointed object to pry open the side slot, separating the two halves of the casing; this will allow access to the electronic board and the battery, as shown in the video.

At this point, you can replace the key shell by transferring all components to the new key shell; check the battery's functionality and finally the buttons!
