How does a starter motor work? It is used to convert the electrical energy provided by the battery into mechanical energy. This energy rotates the flywheel of the engine, starting the internal combustion cycle. The electric motor is the heart of the starter motor and when it receives current from the battery, it starts to rotate. The electromagnetic switch pushes the starter pinion towards the flywheel ring gear and closes the electrical circuit to power the electric motor. A small gear engages with the flywheel ring gear, which is connected to the engine shaft, which, when rotating, starts the movement of the pistons.
