To make this diagnosis, the battery and belt must be in order. Connect a voltmeter to the battery and measure the quiescent voltage. Turn on the ignition and check that the engine and battery warning lights come on; check that they go out when the engine is started. The voltage on the multimeter must be greater than 14 Volts. For subsequent measurements, insert two large consumers, such as the internal fan and the heated rear window. At this point the voltage indicated on the Voltmeter should not be less than 13.5 Volts; if you accelerate it should go up to over 14 Volts. If these values are not reached, check the connections to the battery. The voltage drop cannot exceed 0.1 Volt. Measure the generator voltage between the terminal and its ground. Here the voltage cannot be higher than 0.3 volts compared to the battery voltage, otherwise the cable where the voltage drop occurs must be located, then find the exact point where it occurs. Having found the fault, repair the connection and repeat the measurement.
