How to Clean the EGR Valve of Your Car

To clean the EGR valve, first check the owner's manual to locate the valve and determine what needs to be removed to access it. Once done, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. After that, disconnect the electrical connectors, hoses, and pipes from the valve body. At this point, unscrew the fastening elements of the valve body and remove it. Treat the component with an EGR valve cleaner following the manufacturer's instructions. SPRAY THE CLEANER ONLY IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA, AWAY FROM HOT OBJECTS AND OPEN FLAMES, WEARING GOGGLES, GLOVES, AND A RESPIRATOR WHILE WORKING. Once the cleaner is applied, remove the dirt with a lint-free damp cloth and a brush. Next, blow out the valve with compressed air. Clean the mounting seat of the valve with a cloth and the cleaner. Now, all that remains is to wait for the treated components to dry. Finally, replace the valve gasket, reinstall the valve in its housing, reconnect all connectors, hoses, and pipes. Then, reinstall all the parts removed to access the EGR valve and reconnect the battery terminal.
