What is a Mild-Hybrid Vehicle?

Mild-Hybrid means "light hybrid", which is simpler and more economical: essentially, it has a small component that is halfway between a generator and an alternator. This super-alternator also assists the internal combustion engine, helping to consume less fuel. When braking, the vehicle recovers kinetic energy, which is stored in a lithium-ion battery, and during acceleration phases, such as starting or overtaking, it assists the internal combustion engine. The heart of the hybrid system in such vehicles operates at 48 volts, alongside the standard 12-volt starter battery. The Start & Stop system in these vehicles activates when the car slows down below 12 mph. Mild-hybrids are further divided into two subcategories: BSG (Belt Starter Generator), where the generator is connected to the drive system via a belt - less powerful but cheaper - or ISG (Integrated Starter Generator), where the generator is integrated within the gearbox - offering more power at a higher cost.
