Regarding the specific car, the Volkswagen Passat 3bg, let's see how to disassemble and remove it from its housing: Remove the rear seats of the car, open the small door that gives direct access to the fuel pump and therefore to the tank, unscrew the locking ring of the latter, disconnect the fuel inlet and outlet pipes and disconnect the electrical power terminals. All that's left is to grab it and pull it out.
