How to change the oil filter in the Volkswagen Golf 7

On the Volkswagen Golf 7, the procedure is carried out by securing the vehicle and working from underneath. With the engine off and warm, lift the car on jack stands or a lift and prepare a suitable container for collecting the oil, along with gloves and protective eyewear. Locate the drain point at the bottom of the engine, position the container, and loosen the plug until the oil starts to flow out. Allow the oil to drain completely, and when the flow slows, clean the area and replace the plug without forcing it, replacing the gasket when required or if it appears crushed/worn.

At this point, move on to the oil filter: access and shape vary depending on the engine type, so the rule is to work cleanly and without forcing. Remove the filter, check that the old gasket is not stuck to the seat, and clean the mounting surface. Before installing the new filter, lightly lubricate its gasket with a thin layer of clean oil, then screw it in until it is snug and complete the tightening steadily, avoiding excessive force. If the job also includes topping up, pour the correct specification oil through the fill cap, check the level, and do a brief start-up to pressurize the system. Turn off the engine, wait for settling, and recheck underneath the car for any leaks around the plug and filter area.
