How to change the ignition coils on a Golf MK5

Let's see how to change the coils on a Volkswagen MK5: open the bonnet and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the engine cover and locate the ignition coils.

For each coil, disconnect the electrical connector; unplug the spark plug wire and remove the old coils by unscrewing the 10mm screw that secures the coil. Pull it out upwards: it may resist due to the seal at the bottom.

Spray a bit of contact cleaner in the spark plug housing and then install the new coils. You may have purchased them on Amazon with code B07J4YDH39 for £54.99 for a kit of 4 pieces, with free delivery for Prime customers.

Insert the new coil, put in the securing screw, reconnect the spark plug wire and the electrical connector; repeat for the other coils, reassemble the engine cover, and reconnect the negative battery cable.
