How to Replace the Starter Motor on a Volkswagen Golf

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

Before starting, open the bonnet of your Volkswagen Golf. The starter motor is located at the lower right side of the engine block. Begin by removing the battery and its support bracket by disconnecting the two terminals and removing the securing bolts, which will give you access to the starter motor. Next, disconnect the electrical connector, then unscrew and remove the securing bolts. Once the bolts are removed, you can take out the starter motor, completing the disassembly. To fit the new starter motor and reassemble the battery, simply follow these instructions in reverse, and the replacement will be complete.
