Inspection and Replacement of a Driveshaft Joint

This video explains how to replace the joint and the corresponding boot of a Volkswagen Passat driveshaft. In the initial images, a new joint is compared with a worn one: it is evident that in the second, the boot is very worn and the tears compromise its functionality. If the entire driveshaft needs to be replaced and not just a part of it, the video shows what a complete kit should contain. It then shows a tool specifically designed to separate the joint from the driveshaft: it is a wooden tool shaped like an 'F' that, using gravity, should allow for separation. In reality, it is not strong enough, so another tool that also uses a clamp is employed: this way, the joint is detached. In this case, the joint is in good condition, so it is cleaned internally, re-greased, and covered with a new boot. If the joint needs to be disassembled, mark the points with a small circular saw to remember how to reassemble it in the correct position. After opening the joint and extracting, cleaning, and greasing each part, reassemble it as before. Finally, remember to tighten the clamps that connect the joint to the driveshaft.
