Removing the Car Radio with Two Different Sets of Keys

Model: Volkswagen New Beetle MK 2, 9C - Years 1999-2012

The job can be performed on all VW models equipped with this standard setup, identifiable by the specific slots for extraction keys beneath the radio. There are two types of keys, slightly different in shape. One set has a tab at the upper left end, while the other set has a rounded inner side like a knife blade. When using the hook-type keys, ensure you insert them at a slight angle so that the tips face outward. Once the keys are inserted and the pin is released, pull out the radio while keeping both keys spread outward. When using the rounded profile keys (which are easier to use), the operation is simpler; just insert the keys straight, remembering to keep the rounded profile inside. Once the pin is released, carefully extract the radio to access the connections. Disconnect the antenna cable and various connectors (power, speakers, etc.). The model in question is a 2003 VW New Beetle. Required tools: specific keys for car radio extraction.
