Using the Electronic Handbrake on a Volkswagen Vehicle

See how to use the electronic handbrake, which is not a true handbrake but a parking brake. When the warning light is on, it means the brake is engaged. To disengage it, simply press the button, and the brake will disengage, turning off the warning light. To engage it, lift the button. Another way to disengage the handbrake is to fasten your seatbelt, start the vehicle, and the parking brake will disengage automatically. The 'auto hold' button is for when you need to stop on an incline or decline: pressing this button means you don't need to press the brake, and the vehicle will remain stationary. It will move off automatically when you press the clutch (manual gearbox) or touch the accelerator (automatic gearbox). Turn it off when using automatic car washes.
