Video tutorial

To remove the glove compartment of a Volkswagen Touran, there is a small trick. Under the compartment, there are plastic screws that you will need to unscrew to remove the cover beneath the compartment itself.

Then, remove the side trim that protects it from the passenger door side. Open it. At the top, there are two screws.

Unscrew these as well. Remove the cover on the door, the one at the very bottom: Now remove the three screws located at the bottom of the glove compartment.

You can now carefully pull it away from its housing. One screw is hidden under the plastic that connects it to the centre tunnel.

Therefore, you need to remove the small section of the console where the gear lever is; lift the gaiter, unscrew the screw underneath the gaiter, and the one in the compartment under the central dashboard. Disconnect the plastic front and unplug the ESP connector.

You will find two more screws underneath that you will unscrew, removing the cigarette lighter. Under the steering wheel, locate the fuse box. There are two more screws to unscrew.

At this point, you can remove the centre console. Finally, you can see the last screw behind the panel.

Pull the glove compartment and disconnect the two connectors and the flexible hose. Do not start the engine when the airbag connector is disconnected, or the airbag light will illuminate, indicating an error that will remain on the control unit.
