To replace the water pump on the Volkswagen Golf 3, open the bonnet to remove the cover from the top of the engine block. Since the water pump is located on the left side of the engine block, you will need to remove some obstructing parts such as the air filter housing.

This will allow you to unscrew the bolts securing the water pump and remove it from its housing. Once removed, you can fit the new replacement part and reassemble all previously removed components.
