To replace the thermostat on a Volkswagen Golf, open the bonnet to access the components inside the engine bay. Here, on the left side, you will find some obstructive components that need to be removed to access the coolant hoses. Under the hose, you will locate the thermostat, which can be removed from its housing and replaced with a new spare part.

After replacement, refit all the removed components.
