Replacing the battery inside the smart remote of your Volvo XC40 is a very simple task that can be completed in just a few minutes. First, remove the rear cover and take out the physical emergency key located just underneath. Next, remove the front cover and turn the protective cap counterclockwise to remove it. Once that's done, simply take out the old, completely exhausted button battery and replace it with a new one. Reassemble the various components, and you're done.
