How to replace the fuel pump on a BMW X5? First, disconnect the battery cables. Then, remove the rear seat cushions (the pump is underneath). Use a socket wrench to remove the screws securing the metal cover; take it out of its place and use absorbent paper around the perimeter to soak up any fluid leaks. Use a chisel to unscrew the large retaining pin of the fuel pump, disconnect the power connectors and the fluid circulation hoses. Extract the floating fuel pump from its housing along with any attached parts.
