How to Replace Spark Plugs and Ignition Coils

The video shows how to replace the spark plugs and ignition coils on a BMW Z3. First, using a ratchet with a 10 mm socket, remove the plastic engine cover by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place (the screws are protected by a small cover that needs to be lifted with a screwdriver). Before removing it, unscrew and take out the oil sump plug as well. Once the cover is off, you will have access to the spark plugs and coils. First, use a screwdriver to lift the safety clip; now disconnect the connector from the coil, then with a 10 mm socket, unscrew the fixing bolts; now extract the coil. To reach the spark plug, you will need a ratchet with a spark plug socket. Unscrew and remove the old spark plug. Clean the cylinder of any debris. Before fitting the new spark plug, it is advisable to apply a bit of dielectric silicone to the end of the spark plug and the coil (at their junction point). Now insert the new spark plug into the cylinder and screw it in with the spark plug socket, then refit the coil and screw in the fixing bolts; finally, reconnect the coil connector and reinsert the safety clip by pushing it down. Refit the plastic cover.
