Replacing Engine Spark Plugs
Model: BMW Serie 3
E46
- Years 1998-2006
Start by removing the cabin air filter housing using a ratchet wrench to unscrew the four screws and remove the rubber gasket. Remove the strut bar by unscrewing the corresponding bolts. Take off the engine cover by unscrewing the six bolts, being careful not to drop them into the engine, and unscrew the oil cap. Disconnect the ignition coil wires; the first spark plug is located at the bottom of the well. Pull the connector straight up. To avoid mixing up the wires, disconnect only the first spark plug. Using the appropriate spark plug socket, which has a rubber gripping device, gently insert it onto the spark plug and unscrew it. Be careful not to drop any foreign objects into the well. Replace the spark plug with one of the same model, carefully inserting it into the well, still using the appropriate socket, and turn it gently while ensuring it screws in correctly. If you feel resistance, remove it and try again. The spark plugs should be tightened with a torque wrench; if you do not have one, tighten them without overdoing it. Repeat the same process for the other spark plugs.
