Replacing the Window Regulator Mechanism

The failure of the rear window regulator mechanism in BMWs is a fairly common issue: fortunately, you can purchase a new mechanism in the aftermarket at reasonable prices, to which the original motor will need to be attached. Start by removing the door panel by taking off the trim around the internal handle and the screws underneath; then release the pressure clips and pull the panel away enough to disconnect the lock cable, the window switch connector, and the speaker connector; then peel back the soundproofing cover and proceed to disassemble the mechanism, first disconnecting the glass and then unplugging the motor connector and unscrewing the mounting pins; once the mechanism is removed from the door, unscrew the motor mounting screws and attach it to the new one, proceeding in reverse for installation.
