The breaking of the rear glass lifting mechanism in BMWs is a fairly recurring defect: luckily it is possible to buy the new mechanism in the after market at very reasonable prices, to which the original motor must be applied; start by removing the door panel by removing the trim moldings of the handle of the interior handle and the screws underneath; then release the pressure locks and move the panel far enough away to disconnect the lock cable, the glass lift button socket and the loudspeaker socket; then remove the sound-absorbing coating and proceed with the disassembly of the mechanism, first releasing the crystal and then disconnecting the motor socket and unscrewing the fixing pins; once the mechanism has been extracted from the door, unscrew the fixing screws of the motor and apply it to the new one, proceeding backwards for installation.

First remove the plastic profile at the base of the gear lever. To do this, slightly widen the side edges and carefully lift it to release it. There is no need to remove it completely, just move it forward to avoid bother. Now remove the plastic center console around the handbrake by first working from the rear to release it and lifting it until the brake lever passes.
