Starter Motor Removal Instructions

Model: BMW Serie 7 MK 3, E38 - Years 1994-2001
Part: Starter motor

The starter motor is located on the transmission case (the starter motor pinion engages the flywheel during the ignition phase), just below the exhaust manifold; for this reason, it is protected by an aluminum heat shield. Proceed by removing the bolts that secure the starter motor flange to the transmission case. Then, remove the heat shield and disconnect the power cables to completely take out the starter motor. If replacement is necessary, it is recommended to choose a refurbished one rather than a new one.
