Replacing the Car Clutch

Model: BMW Serie 7 MK 3, E38 - Years 1994-2001

The clutch's job is to disconnect the engine from the transmission to allow for gear changes. When it wears out, it needs to be replaced, and you can do it yourself without specialized help, saving some money. It is not an overly complicated operation. The clutch kit consists of the disc, pressure plate, and release bearing. To disassemble the clutch and reach your goal quickly, you often need to remove the transmission as well. After that, remove the front wheels and disconnect the shock absorbers, carefully removing the pins and related bolts from the hub carrier. Then, detach the lower control arm ball joint and the steering box ball joint. Next, remove the starter motor. At this point, remove the half shafts and disconnect the shift lever, finishing with the removal of the clutch cable.
