Replacing Shock Absorber Mounts

The failure and resulting noise of the front shock absorber mounts is a common issue in many BMW models. Replacing them requires disassembling the shock absorbers. Lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift, remove the front wheel, the link connecting the shock absorber to the stabilizer bar, and the tie rod end of the steering box. Then, move to the suspension control arm's ball joint and the bolts that secure the shock absorber to the hub mount to remove it. Access the engine compartment and remove the mounting nuts for the shock absorber mount at the strut tower, then pull the shock absorber out of its seat. Use the appropriate tool to compress the spring to remove the mount from the shock absorber shaft and install the new one. Reverse the steps for reassembly.
