- Years 1998-2006 The failure and consequent noise of the front shock absorber supports is a fairly recurring defect in many BMW models: in any case, their replacement requires disassembly of the shock absorbers; therefore lift the vehicle on a lift, remove the front wheel, the connecting rod that connects the shock absorber to the stabilizer bar and the head of the steering box tie rod; then move on to the head of the oscillating arm of the suspension and then to the pins that fix the shock absorber to the hub support so that it can be removed; then access the engine compartment and remove the nuts fixing the shock absorber support to the dome and remove the shock absorber from its seat; then use the special tool to crush the spring and be able to remove the support from the shock absorber rod and install the new one; proceed in reverse order to assemble on board the vehicle.
