Removing the Automatic Transmission Transfer Case

Model: BMW X5 E53 - Years 1999-2006

Once you remove the automatic transmission transfer case, look for a small tag attached to it to identify the part number for replacement. If you want to change the transmission fluid (which should be done approximately every 50,000 to 62,000 miles), you need to remove the bolt located underneath the transmission case. To add new transmission fluid, remove the bolt on the right rear side of the case (as shown in the images). To separate the transmission case from the entire assembly, simply remove the four bolts on top and two on the bottom. After that, you can carefully remove it. The maintenance operation shown in the images is performed on the engine part of a BMW X5.
