Replacing the Front Brake Pads on the BMW 1 Series E87

To replace the front brake pads on the BMW 1 Series, open the bonnet of the engine compartment, remove the panel on the driver's side, and open the brake fluid reservoir. Lift the front of the car and place it on axle stands. Remove the wheel and turn the disc outward. Use a sturdy flathead screwdriver to retract the caliper piston by pressing against the brake pad. Lift and remove the metal spring from the caliper, take off the caps from the caliper bolts, and unscrew them with a 7 mm Allen key. Rotate the caliper and remove the pads, then secure the caliper to the suspension. Clean the surfaces with a brush, take the new pads, and apply a thin layer of copper grease to the ends before inserting them into the housings. Reattach the caliper and secure it in place, tightening the caliper bolts with a torque wrench to 30 Nm. Replace the caps and the metal spring. Repeat the same steps on the other wheel, lower the car, and close the brake fluid reservoir.
