Replacing the Electric Fuel Pump

Model: Chevrolet Silverado MK 1 - Years 1998-2007

Locate the relay that powers the fuel pump and remove it from the socket. Start the engine to consume the fuel in the lines. Lift the vehicle on a lift and begin disconnecting the various fuel lines and electrical cables from the tank, placing a container underneath to catch any fuel that spills out. Using a ratchet wrench with an extension, remove the two bolts of the metal strap that supports the tank. Once the tank is free from the supports, remove it and place it on a workbench. Before proceeding to remove the pump, clean the surrounding area thoroughly. Rotate the lock ring on top of the pump ¼ turn, and now you can extract the pump from the tank, allowing any remaining fuel to drain out. Replace the pump with a new one following the installation instructions included in the package. Before reinstalling the pump, clean the tank opening thoroughly. If the replacement part is not exactly the same as the original, you will need to replace the power connector of the electric pump. Cut and strip the wires, then solder them to the wires of the new connector, insulating them with the appropriate tubing.
