How to Replace the Side Mirrors with Backup Lights on the Chevrolet Silverado Mk2

This guide shows how to replace the external rearview mirror on the Chevrolet Silverado Mk2 1500. First, remove the cover of the mirror base using a trim tool. Remove the upper handle trim, the covers of the two additional handles, and the lock cylinder. Remove the five door panel mounting bolts with a 10 mm wrench. Remove the window switch panel and use a trim tool to release the retaining clips of the door panel. Remove the panel and disconnect the lock cable. Next, remove the door insulation panel and disconnect the electrical wires; pull out the mirror cable and unscrew the three 10 mm bolts that hold the piece in place. Hold the mirror as it may fall and damage the door; pull it out and install the new piece. The replacement piece has an additional backup light, so you will need to make an electrical modification to allow proper operation of the signal lights on the mirror. Reassemble everything in position and check for proper operation.
