Replacement of Rear Drums and Shoes

Lift the rear of the vehicle, apply appropriate axle stands, and remove the wheel corresponding to the drum you will be working on.
Apply some penetrating spray to the centre of the hub and the 4 retaining bolts and tap the drum with a hammer from the front to free it.
Before removing the drum, remove the elliptical rubber cap located behind the drum (under the brake fluid pipe) and use a curved screwdriver to lever the adjustment screw of the shoes to bring them closer for easier drum removal.
Then remove the drum and, placing a container under the hub, clean the shoes and the hub itself with appropriate cleaner.
Check for any oil leaks from the brake cylinder by inspecting under the side rubber boots.
Using long-nose pliers, detach the upper connecting spring of the shoes; then detach the vertical spring of the shoe lever.
Using the appropriate tool, press and rotate until you release the central spring on the right shoe and then that on the left shoe: at this point, it is possible to remove the shoes and the push rod with the central adjustment (which should be properly cleaned) by disconnecting the other springs present.
Then extract the circlip securing the handbrake lever pin to the right shoe, being careful of the washer underneath.
Once everything is disassembled, complete the cleaning of the hub, grind the contact points of the shoes with the hub, and apply grease to the centre of the hub as well.
Then proceed with the installation of the new shoes after carefully comparing their compatibility with the old ones.
