Repair of Steering Wheel Controls

Model: Citroen Xsara MK 1 - Years 1997-2006

If the buttons on the steering wheel that control the radio functions do not work, there is a problem either with the buttons or the electronic circuit that manages them: to access this circuit, you need to remove the airbag; before proceeding with the removal, disconnect the battery; the airbag is secured to the steering wheel with two Torx bolts located just behind the spokes of the wheel: unscrew these bolts, pull the airbag away from its housing just enough to disconnect the detonator connectors; then detach the steering wheel control buttons with their respective flat cables and the electronic circuit: the cause of the malfunction lies in excessive oxidation of the circuit components; clean everything with contact spray and possibly reflow the solder joints; once everything is reinstalled, the buttons will work again.
