How to Reset the Renault/Dacia AL4 Automatic Gearbox

This video explains how to reset the Renault AL4 automatic gearbox: this is a relearning procedure that allows the gearbox to relearn the valve positions and improve shifting quality. It is useful after maintenance or if the gearbox starts to jerk or shift abruptly. The engine must be at operating temperature; park on a flat surface, engage the handbrake, and ensure that the lights and air conditioning are off. Do not touch the accelerator pedal during the entire procedure. Turn on the ignition and hold down the brake pedal. Shift the gear lever to 'N'. Wait for 3 minutes with the engine off and the brake pedal pressed; then shift to 'D' and wait another 3 minutes, still holding the brake pedal. After that, begin cycling through the gears slowly, pausing for 5 seconds in each position: the cycle is D-N-R-N-D. Repeat the cycle 3 times. Shift the lever back to 'P' and finally release the brake pedal. Turn off the ignition and remove the key. Wait for 1 minute, start the engine, and take a test drive. The gearbox should be smoother, but it may take a few miles to complete the adaptation.
