How to Change the Timing Belt on a Ford Focus

To replace the timing belt on a 2004 first-generation Ford Focus, position the vehicle on a flat surface, disconnect the battery, and lift the front right of the car. Remove the wheel and the wheel arch liner to access the timing side of the engine. Next, dismantle the auxiliary belt, pulleys, and timing cover. Align the engine by matching the crankshaft and camshaft references using the appropriate locking tools. Loosen the tensioner and remove the old belt along with the rollers and, if applicable, the water pump. Install the new timing kit, ensuring correct positioning and tension of the belt. After manually checking the timing by rotating the engine, reassemble all components in reverse order and check the engine's proper functioning upon starting.
