Checking Brake Disc Runout

Model: Ford Mondeo / Fusion MK 1 - Years 1993-2000

If you experience vibrations in the steering wheel and brake pedal during braking, it is likely that the discs have become warped. You can use a dial gauge to check for any runout of the discs: lift the vehicle on suitable axle stands, remove the front wheel, position the gauge on a fixed part (such as the shock absorber), zero the probe at one point on the disc, and rotate the disc; if the disc rotates eccentrically, the display on the gauge will show a value different from zero at some points on the disc: this runout may also be due to deposits on the hub seat of the disc. Therefore, remove the disc and clean the hub seat thoroughly, including behind the disc, and repeat the check.
