Let’s see how to replace the oil cooler gasket (also known as the oil heat exchanger). It is mounted on an engine block, and the leaking gasket is almost always an O-ring or a flat gasket made of metal or paper that seals the unit to the engine block (we recommend purchasing from a physical parts supplier). Unscrew the oil drain plug on the engine block and allow all the oil to drain; partially drain the coolant by opening the radiator valve or the drain plug on the block; the exchanger is connected to the cooling circuit. Often, to access the exchanger, it is necessary to remove the lower plastic cover, the air filter, and any hoses or cables that obstruct the workspace. Disconnect the two flexible coolant hoses from the exchanger, unscrew the oil temperature sensor and the oil filter, and the 2 or 3 bolts that secure the exchanger body to the engine block, then pull away the entire assembly; residual oil will come out. Clean the engine block mating surface thoroughly with solvent, remove the old gaskets, and install the new ones, lubricating them with clean oil. Position the exchanger with the new gaskets on the engine block, screw in the securing bolts, reconnect the temperature sensor, reconnect the coolant hoses, screw in the new oil filter and the oil drain plug. Fill the engine with new oil, fill the cooling circuit with new coolant, start the engine, and check for leaks.
