Model: Hyundai Sonata EF - Years 1998-2005
Part: Timing belt
Operation: Timing belt replacement

Raise the car on a lift, remove the right front wheel (passenger side), remove the wheel arch cover to access the pulleys and loosen the auxiliary belt tensioner to be able to remove it. Then remove the plastic cover from the top of the engine, remove the power steering pump and its reservoir without however removing the pulley and pipes; then proceed with disassembling the auxiliary belt tensioner and the timing cover. Remove again the idler (plastic pulley) of the auxiliary belt, the crankshaft pulley and the other timing cover piece. Rotate the crankshaft until all the timing marks are aligned and only at this point begin to disassemble the timing belt tensioner. Then apply a support under the engine since it is necessary to remove the relative support to work more easily on the timing system as well as the bracket from the engine block. Before applying the new belt, also replace the water pump, the transmission pulley and the tensioner; finally install the new belt and what was previously removed. It is also suggested to install a new auxiliary belt kit.
