Disassembling the Fan Motor and Regulator of the Air Conditioning System

Model: Mazda 3 BK, MK 1 - Years 2003-2009

If you have issues with the air conditioning system turning on and off by itself, first check the fuses both inside the cabin and in the engine compartment (near the bonnet latch as shown in the video). If the fuses are intact, it could be a relay. The relay to the right of the wiring harness (as indicated in the video) controls the fan's on and off. Do not rush to buy a new one as the relay to the left of the wiring harness controls the vehicle's ignition and is exactly the same as the fan relay. To test if the relay is faulty, swap the two components by placing the fan relay in the ignition relay's position. If the car starts, it means the relay is functioning. At this point, you need to disassemble the actual fan, which is not an easy task. As shown in the video, you must remove the passenger side glove compartment. Then, remove the external air recirculation filter, and from there you will have access to the fan assembly. The issue is that it is bolted and electrically connected from the driver's side but needs to be extracted from the passenger side. To reach the screws and disconnect the fan's electrical connections, you will need to remove the accelerator and brake pedals. In the engine compartment, you must remove the battery and battery tray to disassemble the brake servo and therefore the brake pedal inside the cabin.
