How to Reprogram a Mercedes Automatic Transmission

In this video, we will discuss what is known as the "accelerator pedal procedure" to reset the adaptive memory of the transmission control unit in a Mercedes. This control unit memorizes your driving style (referring to the last 40 driving cycles) to adapt the shifts and resolves common issues, such as random jerks or slow shifts, while it does not fix mechanical problems: it is just a software reset. It works for 5-speed (722.6) and 7-speed (722.9) transmissions. Timing is crucial for the success of the procedure. The engine must be off and cold. Turn on the ignition and immediately press the accelerator pedal all the way down until you hear the "click-down switch." Hold it down for 10 seconds, counting slowly. Turn off the ignition without removing the key, and release the pedal. Wait two minutes without touching anything, so the control unit can reset its tables, then remove the key. Now start the relearning phase. Drive for 15 to 20 minutes in mixed conditions, normally and variably, without driving aggressively. After this phase, the control unit will have recorded the new base driving profile, and the shifts should feel sharper and more precise.
