Correct Driving Technique for the MG ZS Hybrid

This video shows one of the most important (and often misunderstood) features of hybrid driving. Essentially, from 0 to 50 mph, the operation is predominantly electric. Above this speed or under load, the internal combustion engine activates for traction and charging. During rapid acceleration, the internal combustion engine kicks in and revs loudly to provide power. The issue identified in the video is that when the accelerator is fully pressed, it reaches 5,600 RPM with a lot of noise, while if the acceleration is gradual, the engine stays at 2,000 RPM and is smoother and quieter. Therefore, when overtaking, it is incorrect to floor the accelerator; instead, the right technique is to gradually press the pedal to allow the hybrid system to respond. When going uphill, anticipate acceleration before the incline and maintain a constant speed instead of accelerating uphill; if necessary, manually shift to a lower gear. For regeneration, use engine braking by releasing the accelerator; when descending, use B mode to increase regeneration. On the highway, cruise control is our best ally; remember that above 68 mph, the vehicle runs solely on the internal combustion engine. In the city, however, try to make the most of electric power with gentle accelerations. For those coming from internal combustion vehicles, forget about abrupt maneuvers; learn to feel the hybrid system: power comes differently.
