How to Repair the Low Clutch Pedal on a Nissan Qashqai

The clutch pedal on this Nissan Qashqai has suddenly dropped and no longer works, even when pulled up manually. Possible causes are: a faulty clutch hydraulic pump (either under the pedal or inside the gearbox) and in this case, you need to visit a mechanic. Alternatively, it could just be the pedal rod that has popped out of its seat (and then DIY repair is possible). In this case, under the clutch pedal, there is a rod that, when the pedal is pressed, compresses the hydraulic pump; the rod is held in position by three small plastic clips, which over time lose rigidity and allow the rod to come out. The solution is to lubricate the rod with grease, reposition the rod in its seat (just push it back into place), and place a tie wrap just above the three plastic clips. The tie wrap should compress the clips, not the end of the rod. Tighten well and cut off the excess. The tie wrap prevents the plastic clips from opening, so the rod cannot come out again: it’s a good idea to carry out this operation preventively on all cars using this system before the problem occurs.
