Turbocharger Replacement Instructions

It is recommended to carry out this maintenance only if you have good mechanical knowledge as there is quite a bit to disassemble. Start by replacing the engine oil and filter: if the turbocharger has failed, it is possible that there are residues in the engine, so it is good practice to replace the oil and filter and thoroughly inspect the intake manifold. Once done, proceed to disassemble everything connected to the exhaust manifold to which the turbocharger is attached: pre-catalytic converter, hoses, sensors; use the nut and counter-nut method for removing the captive bolts. Once the manifold with the turbocharger is on the bench, complete the disassembly to replace it with a new one (you can also opt for a refurbished unit), replacing also the fittings, gaskets, and captive bolts. Reverse the process for reassembly. Remove the fuel pump relay and crank the engine to allow oil to reach the turbocharger before starting the engine; reposition the relay and then start the engine: if you see smoke coming from the turbocharger, there is nothing to worry about.
