Installation of a Blow-Off Valve
Model: Vauxhall Astra
Astra F
- Years 1991-1998
In the case of a turbocharged engine, the blow-off valve, commonly known as a pop-off, is placed on the outlet duct of the compressor, which compresses the intake air, to control and/or limit the maximum pressure exerted. This is necessary because, in certain situations, the compressor may be compressing air that cannot be introduced into the engine (turbine fully expanding and throttle closed, with the engine rapidly decreasing in revs): in this particular condition, the turbocharger operates in a "surge" zone, meaning the compressor, unable to push the air forward, tends to wind up on itself, exponentially increasing the force on the thrust bearing until it breaks; furthermore, the pressure spike that occurs within the intake manifold (the so-called "water hammer") can have detrimental effects on both the manifold and the engine. The pop-off serves to release the unconsumed air and reduce the pressure downstream of the compressor to protect the turbocharger and the engine. Specifically, the video shows the installation of a free-flowing blow-off valve activated by vacuum: it is connected with a small hose to the vacuum diaphragm.

How to Replace the Timing Belt on a Volkswagen Golf
To perform this simple operation, first lift the bonnet. Then, remove the upper engine cover and the plastic side cover that protects the timing belt. To create more space for the job, you can remove components next to the engine, such as the coolant reservoir, the windscreen washer pipe, and the fuel filter. This will allow you to remove the lower engine cover and the right wheel for better access to the area where you will be working. Now, relieve the tension from the tensioner pulley and remove the belt for replacement. by ScegliAuto More videos
