How to Remove the Alternator Belt from the Opel Astra H 1.6

To remove the alternator belt, you will need: a 19 mm spanner, a T25 Torx bit, a ratchet, and a clip removal tool. It is advisable to perform this operation with the car raised. Remove the front passenger side wheel. Using a T25 Torx bit, unscrew the 3 screws and remove the clip holding the wheel arch liner (passenger side) so you can start observing the belt. Use a 19 mm spanner to loosen the tension on the tensioner by turning the spanner slightly counter-clockwise. This way, by moving the tensioner slightly, you can begin to remove the belt and subsequently reposition the tensioner. BELT MOUNTING DIAGRAM: The belt should pass to the right of the tensioner, to the left on the upper gear (top left of the tensioner), to the right on the upper gear (top right of the tensioner), to the right on the lower gear (bottom right of the tensioner), and to the left on the lower gear (bottom left of the tensioner). At this point, you can reattach the wheel arch liner by screwing in the 3 screws and inserting the previously removed clip, then refit the wheel. Finally, run the engine at idle for a few minutes.
