Replacing the Rear Wheel Bearing

Model: Peugeot 406 MK 1 - Years 1995-2005

Lift the vehicle at the wheel where the repair will be carried out and apply an axle stand. Then remove the wheel and the brake caliper, taking out the brake pads.
Unscrew the retaining pins of the brake disc and remove it from the hub, then unscrew the central hub retaining nut: use a suitable puller to extract the hub from the rear axle, which should be cleaned thoroughly and lubricated.
Insert the new hub complete with bearing and tap it in the centre so that the nut can be screwed on, which must then be tightened adequately: dimple the edge of the nut with a chisel and apply the cap.
Reassemble the brake disc (after applying grease to the centre of the hub to prevent rust), the caliper, the pads, and finally the wheel.
